Congrats!

There are so many lessons to be learned with the first child. If I knew then what I know now... the universe would be a different place.

The biggest lesson I learned is to trust my own instincts - there are no "experts" out there. You just have to make the best choices availble to you and embrace the outcome.

Take care of yourself and your family. Rest at every opportunity and try to enjoy all the little moments - they add up.

That's really shitty that they were off on the date and effectively rushed the c-section, especially since the c-section has ramifications for future births.

The bottom line is that we as parents have to make decisions and deal with the consequences. We chose the midwife at a birthing center and then midwife at home route. Neither birth was uneventful and there were events in both of ours that could've gone badly and caused us to second guess ourselves for the rest of our lives. Luckily, they turned out ok. I'd like to think that's due to the experience and skill of the midwives, but ultimately you're once again putting your trust in the judgment call of someone who's supposed to be a professional. As you've pointed out, doctors these days have all sorts of factors stacked against them.

I'm sure we'll talk more...

Glad you're all well.
